Windcheck continues to cover racing and destinations on Long Island Sound, focusing on The Connecticut River in October and the end of the season racing action in November.

Points East had some very meaty issues this Fall, including an interesting article about the two-year-old Stonington Cruising Club, a look at Lobstering Ladies – women who fish for a living, and

Boating World covered a plethora of destination from the North Shore of Long Island (Port Jeff, Northport and Oyster Bay ) to Cuba , from San Francisco Bay to Virgin Gorda and from the Chesapeake to Nantucket .  (They get around.) The Nov/Dec issue had the 35 article in their series about lighthouses – Race Rock Light off Fishers Island in New York

Soundings continues to develop its editorial and in October did a great piece on the 100th anniversary of the New York 30s and an even better piece on the oldest sailors – including William Allen Wood who at 101 finally turned his Tartan over to his son  and Harry Heckel Jr who finally retired from circumnavigating solo at the age of 89 after going around twice!

Cruising World covered the Rolex Transatlantic in October along with new boats coming to the boat shows this fall.  In November, aside from a basic article about what’s new in electronics, they did a good piece on using pilings and seawalls to your advantage in docking maneuvers, and a very nice article about the tradition of Morris Yachts.

Offshore covered Vineyard Haven on Martha’s Vineyard in November and Sleepy Hollow on the Hudson River in October.

Blue Water Sailing covered some very interesting perspectives of the Bermuda One0Two which rarely gets any good publicity including a really neat story about Moe Roddy and her Red Dress sailing initiatives.  Better yet, they carried a story about a woman who was severely stung by a Portuguese Man-of-War in shallow water off Bermuda.  They note that there is now a product shown to provide some protection from jellyfish stings called SafeSea (www.nidaria.com).  Most important, they covered the results of the COB symposium held in San Francisco earlier this year and report the best 6 ways to recover a crewmember who goes overboard (we had to chuckle about their insistence on use of the MOB even though the symposium itself was named Crew Overboard).

Note to publishers:

If we didn’t cover your publications, it’s because we either don’t know about them, they are regional outside our current territory of coverage, or we just do not subscribe at the moment.  If you send us copies, we’d be glad to include them in our review.  Thanks so much, and keep the news flowing and the dreams growing.
