The New York Times had not just one but two articles (May 19 & 23) about the NYYC & Rolex Transatlantic race, which unfortunately started off with a fizzle (the entrants had to motor out), went into a frazzle (gale force winds and huge seas), and back to fizzle (with a couple of the slower vessels calling it quits). Such is the life of racing sailors on a time schedule!
Cruising World ran a wonderful story by John Rousmaniere about the history and restoration of the great and legendary yacht Bolero in the April issue. Designed by S&S, built on SAIL Magazine covered Lats & Atts announced the successful filming of their first L&A TV show, featured the refit of The Lost Soul (the continuing saga), cruising Ireland and chartplotters in the May issue, and ran Alex’ story about our Frers 41, Espresso, with whom we had so many great adventures in the June issue. Love Bob’s editorials. Practical Sailor covered large screen chartplotters (good for aging boomers) inverters and those befuddling caulks and sealants in their April issues, May featured more of the same. Blue Water Sailing has a great issue in May covering the “Joys of sailing offshore” (naturally we’d like that subject) and covers the main family-friendly rallies and races you can join. Their special report on personal safety gear in June covers a few real advances including the Aquafix 406 EPIRB. Windcheck ran a cool series on time share sailing on LIS in their April and May issues, announced that Dennis Conner is taking over at the helm of North Cove marina in the heart of New York City’s financial district and introduced the launch of your truly, CS.net. Thanks also to Chris Gill for taking such awesome pictures of our Aleria sailing at the edge of the racing fleet. Noreast Saltwater reported a resurgence of striped bass in western long island sound tracked to a migration from the DIY does a fantastic job of covering bearing, shaft and strut repairs to alleviate vibration in your system. Jan Mundy is our hero! Meanwhile, SAIL magazine launched its own version of a DIY-type magazine called BoatWorks and you can get a subscription to it if you renew your SAIL subscription for $10. Honestly, are there that many people DIY-ing?
Offshore covers NYC destinations Note to publishers: If we didn’t cover your publications, it’s because we either don’t know about them, they are regional outside our current territory of coverage, or we just do not subscribe at the moment. If you send us copies, we’d be glad to include them in our review. Thanks so much, and keep the news flowing and the dreams growing. | ||
